A pullet is a young female chicken (hen) that has not started laying yet. A pullet cage is a galvanised wire mesh cage in which pullets are kept – for intensive poulty farming. A layer cage is a cage where hens, that are bred for laying chicken eggs for eating, are kept. This form of chicken farming is known as production egg farming or factory farming. The layers will be kept in cages for about 12 months or until their ability to produce enough eggs starts to decline. They are then sold for slaughter.
A laying hen can produce up to 300 eggs per year and much of the eggs we eat around the world are produced by this form of chicken egg farming. Small laying hens cages are a good method for emerging poultry farmers or people wanting to produce small quantities of eggs for reselling in chicken egg production. Layer cages consist of 4 cages each with 5 compartments assembled on a support frame as a 2 tier system. Each space in each cage cage can hold up to 5 birds depending on bird breed, air temperature control and ventilation within the chicken house. The layer cage s include feed troughs and water drinking nipples system.
